D-Dey Energy helps customers understand electricity use, costs and service quality. This policy explains what information we process, why we process it, the service providers involved, and the choices available to you.
D-DEY ENERGY LIMITED is the data controller for personal data processed through the D-Dey Energy application and related services. Contact us at legal@ddeyenergy.com or support@ddeyenergy.com.
Information we process
- Account and contact information: name, email address, telephone number, account identifiers, authentication provider and assigned customer or meter.
- Electricity and meter information: meter identity, readings, voltage, current, power, frequency, energy use, grid availability, interruptions, billing-cycle records and related timestamps.
- Evidence you submit: meter or installation photographs, notes, supporting documents, and a property address or description you enter. The app does not request GPS location access.
- Transactions and service records: subscription, reservation, payment-reference, invoice, refund and complaint-support records. Payment-card or bank credentials entered on a payment provider's interface are handled by that provider; D-Dey does not store complete card or bank-account credentials.
- Support and communications: support-ticket category, subject, message, attachments and correspondence.
- Device and diagnostics: device or push-notification token, app version, operating system, security events, crash diagnostics and optional analytics events.
We do not request your BVN or NIN for the ordinary operation of the app, and we do not sell personal data.
How we use information
- authenticate users and administer accounts, roles and meter assignments;
- display live and historical energy information, calculate estimates and operate billing cycles;
- create customer-requested statements, exports and service-quality evidence;
- process payments, subscriptions, reservations and refund requests;
- send operational notifications and respond to support requests;
- protect the service, investigate errors and improve reliability; and
- comply with legal, accounting, fraud-prevention and regulatory obligations.
Cost figures are estimates unless expressly identified as authoritative. Complaint documents generated by the app are evidence drafts, not findings or determinations by a DisCo or regulator.
Legal grounds and consent
Depending on the activity, we process information to provide the service you request, perform a contract, comply with legal obligations, protect legitimate security and operational interests, or act with your consent. Optional analytics and crash-diagnostics choices are separate from essential account and energy services. You can decline or withdraw optional consent in the app’s Privacy & Data Rights controls. Withdrawal stops new optional collection controlled by the app; it does not undo processing that has already occurred. Operational security logs and records needed to deliver requested services are handled separately.
Service providers and disclosures
We use vetted service providers only as needed to operate D-Dey Energy. These may include Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, databases, storage, hosting, messaging, analytics and diagnostics; Apple or Google for sign-in; Shelly services for supported meter telemetry; Paystack or another displayed payment provider for payment processing; and email or communications providers for receipts, alerts and support.
We may disclose information to an authorised property or meter administrator, professional adviser, competent authority, court, regulator or law-enforcement body where authorised by you or required by law. We do not disclose individual usage data to third parties for their advertising.
Build 26 data-product status
This release does not make utility credit scores or customer- or meter-level energy records available through D-Dey business-to-business data APIs to banks, fintechs, electricity distributors or carbon-market buyers. Those data-product APIs are disabled in the Build 26 release configuration, and new buyer access keys cannot be issued while they are disabled. We will not enable such sharing without first updating this policy, implementing the required consent and access controls, and giving affected users any notice or choice required by law.
Optional AI assistance
AI assistance uses Google Gemini. Before your first request, the app asks permission to share your message, recent chat context (up to eight prior turns), and relevant energy context such as meter type, tariff band, configured budget, available readings, source, and reading freshness with Google. Your account name, email address and Firebase identifier are not automatically included in the AI prompt, but personal information that you type can be sent.
Declining leaves non-AI account and monitoring features available. You can withdraw AI consent in the app’s privacy controls. Withdrawal prevents new AI requests, including retries, but cannot recall information already sent. Google’s processing is governed by the applicable Gemini API terms and Google Privacy Policy. Do not include passwords, access keys, or unnecessary sensitive information in chat. AI responses may be wrong and are not meter verification, a bill, or regulatory advice.
Demo data
The Demo uses an anonymous account identifier and clearly identified sample energy data. Demo readings and graphs are synthetic, do not describe a real property, and cannot establish a bill, payment, or compensation entitlement.
Camera, photos and notifications
Camera and photo-library access is requested when you choose to capture or attach evidence. The app does not request GPS location, Bluetooth, local-network or biometric access. Notification permission supports account, meter and service alerts. You can change these permissions in your device settings.
Retention and deletion
Account deletion has a 30-day cancellation period shown in the app, followed by scheduled processing. You can cancel before processing begins. Temporary service failures are retried; the app’s deletion receipt shows the request status. Processing removes the authentication account, account profile, device tokens, consent records and identified account-owned support and evidence data. Shared meter readings, balances and sealed financial or audit records are retained to preserve the property’s record history. Historical records may retain an opaque account identifier without the deleted account profile; this is not a claim of complete anonymisation. A sealed record containing direct contact details requires review before deletion can complete.
You can request account and data deletion inside the app under Account → Delete account, or contact privacy@ddeyenergy.com. You may ask us which records remain, why they remain, and the applicable retention period. A deletion request is not a request to erase another property user’s records.
Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent and a portable copy of your data. Account privacy controls provide access to data requests and account deletion. You can also contact the privacy address below to exercise these rights. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security and international processing
We use access controls, authentication, encryption in transit, tenant-scoped permissions, monitoring and other safeguards designed to protect information. No system is completely secure. Some service providers may process data outside Nigeria; where this occurs, we use lawful safeguards appropriate to the transfer and service.
Children
D-Dey Energy is not directed to children. A child should not create an account or submit personal information without the involvement and lawful authorisation of a parent or guardian.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our services or legal obligations change. We will publish the revised version and effective date here and provide additional notice where required.
